Folyvo is a free, open-source macOS app that keeps earlier saved versions of files in folders you choose.

Choose a folder for Folyvo to watch. Then work in Word, Excel, Pages, or any app you already use.

Your saves are kept in the background. Keep working the way you know. Earlier versions stay there when you need them.

A folder is all
you need to choose.

Start with the work you care about. A folder of client documents, this semester’s coursework, or the project on your desk.

  1. Choose your folder

    Tell Folyvo where you work. You choose which folders it watches.

  2. Work as you usually do

    Edit your files in their usual apps. With Folyvo running, saved changes are kept in the background.

  3. Look back when you need to

    Open Folyvo from the menu bar. Pick your file, then choose a saved time.

For the moment you say,
“I had it a minute ago.”

You shorten a proposal. Change a few numbers. Save over a paragraph you meant to keep.

Usually, saving means the old file disappears behind the new one. With Folyvo watching, those earlier saves are still there to look through.

Do I need to change how I save?

No. Save in your usual app. Folyvo watches the folders you choose and keeps saved changes while it is running. Unsaved edits inside another app are outside that history.

Can I edit documents inside Folyvo?

Folyvo shows a preview of a saved file. To edit it, open a copy in Word, Excel, Pages, or the app you already use.

What happens when I restore a version?

Folyvo asks you to confirm before replacing the current file with the earlier contents. The restore is recorded as a new saved time; the other saved versions remain in the history.

What if someone renames a copy?

Folyvo checks the file’s contents against the versions it has kept. An identical copy can be recognized even under a different name. If no saved version matches, it says so.

Does it upload my documents?

No. Folyvo keeps files and their history on your Mac. It needs no account or cloud service. You choose when to share a copy through another app.

Does this replace my Mac’s backup?

Folyvo helps you look back through saved work on this Mac. Keep a separate backup of your Mac as well, so your files are protected if the computer or its drive is lost.

Can I try it now?

Folyvo is still in development, with macOS 14 or later as its first target. The first download will be listed on GitHub releases. The code is already available to explore.
